I think the description of Lip Velvet is on the dot. It's highly pigmented, creamy, no shimmer at all. It has the same level of pigmentation as a creamy semi-matte lipstick, but with a more "wet" look. Since it is so pigmented, this isn't a "glop it on without a mirror and go" item. It's not my favorite formula, since I prefer sheerer stains, but if this is what you are looking for, you will be pleased.
I tried Cassis on at a makeover, and it comes out quite purple. Again, not my favorite color on lips, but I did get two compliments from strangers (females) on the way back. They wanted to know the product name and brand so that they could get one for themselves!

I like this product and colours quite a bit. They are rich and full bodied without being heavy. They are matte but aren't drying at all!

Laura's Lip Velvets are the best long wearing lip product I have ever tried. Unlike most long wearing lip products that dry out the lips, look and feel stiff on the lips, Laura's Lip Velvets feel and look smooth both upon immediate application, and several hours later. Lip Velvets are very pigmented which allows you to play with the amount of color or effect you crave. The easy wand applicator is a no mess choice and allows to give your lips shape and finish. Lip Velvets have a gorgeous semi-matte finish, so they do not require a gloss or lip conditioner on the top to give luster. The shades available in the Lip Velvet formula are classic, wearable shades. My favorite for a neutral brown: Naked Rose, a wearable rose; Royal Plum, and classic red; Scarlet Passion.

I love the look of Lip Velvet --what I don't like however, is it's ability to stay on and after the first few applications the container seems empty
